Ousmane Dembele Claims Back-To-Back Ligue 1 Player Of The Season Award
Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele claimed Ligue 1's player of the season award for the second consecutive year Monday, extending a remarkable streak that has seen PSG players win the honor for 10 straight seasons. Kylian Mbappe won five consecutive awards before departing for Real Madrid. The last non-PSG recipient was Alexandre Lacazette, who won for Lyon in 2015. The prize was not presented during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 campaign. Dembele's 2026 individual numbers are modest compared to last season's Ballon d'Or-winning campaign, when he scored 21 goals in PSG's title run. Injuries have limited him to 10 league goals this term, with coach Luis Enrique starting him in only nine Ligue 1 matches. His Champions League contributions have been more prominent. Dembele scored early in the second leg against Bayern Munich, securing a 1-1 draw that sent PSG through 6-5 on aggregate. PSG face Premier League leaders Arsenal in the final on May 30. PSG sit six points clear of second-place Lens with two games remaining and a commanding goal difference advantage. A draw at Lens on Wednesday in their rescheduled fixture would clinch a record-extending 14th league title. PSG teammate Desire Doue claimed best young player for the second straight season. The 20-year-old's winning goal against Brest on Sunday pushed PSG to the brink of the championship. Lens coach Pierre Sage won best coach for guiding the club to an unexpected title challenge in his first season. Robin Risser claimed best goalkeeper for Lens, while Haiti playmaker Melchie Dumornay won best women's player for OL Lyonnais.

Mason Greenwood attends awards night with girlfriend Harriet Robson as Ousmane Dembele scoops top prize
Mason Greenwood and Harriet Robson made a rare public appearance together on Monday night as they attended the UNFP Trophy ceremony in Paris, where the former Manchester United forward was among the contenders for Ligue 1's Player of the Year award. The 24-year-old arrived at the prestigious event alongside partner Harriet Robson, with whom he shares two children, after enjoying an impressive second season with Marseille. Greenwood was shortlisted for the division's top individual honour following a prolific campaign in France, having scored 16 league goals so far. His strong performances have helped the French side to sixth in the standings so far. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say However, the award ultimately went to Ousmane Dembele, who retained the prize despite featuring sparingly in the French top flight this season. The PSG star, who won the Ballon d'Or last year, has started only nine Ligue 1 matches but still collected enough votes from his fellow professionals to claim the accolade. Dembele has scored 10 league goals and registered six assists, with many of his standout displays coming in the Champions League rather than domestic competition. The result sparked debate among supporters and pundits, with some questioning how a player who has played fewer than 1,000 league minutes could be named the division's best performer. Speaking after receiving the trophy, Dembele acknowledged that his limited appearances had become a talking point. "Perceptions have changed because I'm the reigning Ballon d'Or winner," he said. "I haven't had a lot of playing time, but every time I've been on the pitch, I've tried to be there for the team." The 28-year-old added that he was delighted to have been recognised by his peers. "I don't know if my time counts double, but I'm happy that the players voted for me," he said. Also nominated was Vitinha, who has been instrumental in PSG's midfield as the club pursues another league title and a second consecutive Champions League final appearance. Dembele took time to acknowledge both his teammate and manager Luis Enrique during his acceptance speech. "I wanted to thank my whole family, the staff, the president and the coach Luis Enrique," he said. "I'm lucky to have a coach like that; he's exceptional." PSG, meanwhile, are on the verge of winning the Ligue 1 title. They require just a point to make things safe, though their better goal difference means the title is virtually guaranteed.
