Barcelona Delay Decisions On Marcus Rashford, Robert Lewandowski
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick praised the contributions of Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski to the club's LaLiga title run Tuesday but said decisions on both players' futures will wait until the season ends. Rashford scored in Sunday's 2-0 Clasico victory over Real Madrid that clinched the title with three games remaining. The 28-year-old England international has recorded 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions this season, also helping Barca win the Spanish Supercopa. "At the end of the season, we will analyze everything," Flick said. "Then we will see what happens. Marcus gave us a lot. He has good numbers. I am thankful about that." Barcelona hold an option to convert Rashford's Manchester United loan into a permanent transfer for approximately $35 million. Rashford has indicated his desire to remain, saying after Sunday's Clasico: "I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay." Lewandowski's situation is more pressing. The Polish striker turns 38 in August and is out of contract in June, drawing interest from clubs across Europe, the United States and Saudi Arabia. Barcelona have held talks over an extension at a lower salary, though a source indicated Lewandowski wants clarity before Sunday's final home match against Real Betis. "I am proud to be a coach for this amazing player," said Flick, who previously won the Champions League alongside Lewandowski at Bayern Munich. "We have to analyse it and see what happens next season." Flick also confirmed he will sign a contract extension keeping him at Barcelona through 2028, with an option for a further year through 2029. Barca now target a 100-point season, a feat achieved only twice in LaLiga history, by Real Madrid in 2012 and Barcelona in 2013.
