Speaking with Collider , the actor revealed that he’s already talked with DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran about the possibility of a standalone Lobo project. However, he made it crystal clear that he has no desire to tone the character down for a broader audience. “It’s all I want, and I promise — I’m just going to put this out there right now — I do not have any interest in making a Lobo PG-13 movie. So, will [Lobo] be a part of some other movies? If they want me, I’ll be there. But if I make a solo movie, I’m not doing it unless it’s rated R.” Lobo has always been one of DC’s most outrageous characters. The cigar-chomping alien mercenary is known for his violent adventures, twisted sense of humor, and complete disregard for rules. He’s a character who thrives on chaos, and many comic fans would argue that an R-rating is the best way to fully embrace everything that makes him so entertaining. For now, audiences will get their first taste of Momoa’s take on the character in Supergirl , which hits theaters and IMAX on June 26. The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, following the young Kryptonian as she celebrates her 23rd birthday while traveling across the galaxy with her loyal companion Krypto. The movie is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow , the acclaimed 2022 comic book series written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely . The screenplay was adapted by Ana Nogueira . The story follows Supergirl and a young alien girl named Ruthye Mary Knolle as they embark on a dangerous mission to track down Krem of the Yellow Hill after he murders Ruthye’s father in cold blood. Along with Momoa’s Lobo, the cast includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem. Whether a solo Lobo movie actually happens remains to be seen, but Momoa’s enthusiasm for the character is impossible to miss. The actor has been vocal for years about wanting to play the Main Man, and now that he’s finally gotten the opportunity, it sounds like he already knows exactly what kind of movie he wants to make. The bigger question is whether DC Studios will eventually give him the chance to unleash a fully R-rated Lobo adventure.
